Plumbing Repairs
The unglamorous jobs done well: taps, toilets, ball valves, stopcocks, leaking pipework, waste and traps, outside taps and low pressure. Fixed quotes, tidy work, and no job too small to take seriously.

Small plumbing jobs are where this trade earns or loses its reputation. Plenty of firms will not get out of bed for them; the ones that will often price the visit like a punishment. We take the small work seriously because it is most of what actually goes wrong in a house: taps that drip, toilets that will not stop filling, stopcocks seized solid, weeping joints, slow basins, and the outside tap that split over winter. Each gets a proper repair with the right part — not a squirt of sealant and an invoice.
Around here, the villain behind half of it is the water itself. Surrey's supply is very hard — over 300 ppm — and the scale it leaves behind chews through tap washers and ceramic cartridges, cakes up toilet fill valves and cements stopcock spindles in place. A tap re-washered without reseating a scale-pitted seat drips again within months — which is why we carry seating tools as well as washers, and fit scale-tolerant parts where they exist.
Pricing is simple: a fixed quote before work starts, small jobs batched happily into one visit, and an honest "replace, don't repair" when a fitting is beyond economic rescue. Most repairs are done in a single visit from a well-stocked van, and we leave the area as clean as we found it.
Why does my toilet keep running?
A constantly running toilet has one of two faults: a fill valve that will not shut off, so water spills down the internal overflow, or a flush valve seal leaking water from cistern to pan. Water trickling into the pan means the flush seal; a cistern filling past its line means the fill valve.
In hard-water Surrey both failures are usually scale: deposits foul the fill valve until it weeps or jams, and stiffen the flush seal so it stops seating cleanly. Both parts cost little, and replacing beats descaling — a cleaned valve fails again within the year. We replace both valves, and check everything else in the cistern, in a single visit.
Why is my tap dripping — washer or cartridge?
It depends on the tap. Traditional taps with separate heads that turn several times use rubber washers — a drip means the washer has worn, or the brass seat beneath it is scale-pitted. Modern monobloc and quarter-turn taps use ceramic cartridges — a drip means scale or grit has got between the discs.
The washer job is only half done if the seat is ignored — a new washer on a scale-roughened seat drips again within months — so we carry reseating tools and do the whole repair. Cartridges are matched to the tap, so we identify the brand and carry the common patterns or source the exact one. And the honest threshold: on a cheap or elderly tap, a cartridge can cost more than half a decent new tap, and we will say so rather than fit expensive parts into failing chrome — and where the tap is the last straw for a tired suite, a full bathroom refit is sometimes the honest conversation.
What small plumbing jobs do we take on?
Effectively all of them: tap repairs and replacements, toilet fill and flush valves, ball valves in header tanks, stopcocks eased or replaced (worth sorting before you ever need the emergency plumber), leaking joints, small-bore pipe repairs, blocked or smelly wastes and traps, outside taps, washing machine connections, and low-pressure investigations. The jobs other firms call "too small" are the ones we build routes around.
Better still, save the list — most houses have three or four niggles at any time — and we will batch them into one appointment so the callout cost spreads across the lot. Where the honest answer is a bigger job, you get it straight: a monthly-blocking waste has a fall or venting problem, and whole-house low pressure may be a furred supply pipe, while chronically weak hot-water pressure can point to a mains-pressure unvented cylinder upgrade. We quote the real fix and the patch, and you choose.
What do plumbing repairs cost?
Small repairs start at £85, covering the visit and the first job — a tap re-washered or a fill valve replaced — with parts itemised fairly on top. Every job is quoted fixed before work starts, and extra jobs added to the same visit are priced as additions, not fresh callouts.
The expensive way to use any plumber is one visit per niggle — a tap, a toilet and a stiff stopcock done together typically cost well under half of three separate appointments. You will also get a straight answer on repair versus replace: a seized gate valve is often better swapped for a quarter-turn lever valve than resurrected, and where it is close we quote both routes with our recommendation.
What’s included
- Taps, toilets & valves
- Leak tracing & pipe repairs
- Stopcocks eased or replaced
- No job too small
When you need this
- A tap is dripping, stiff, or impossible to turn off fully
- The toilet runs on after flushing, fills noisily, or trickles into the pan
- You've spotted a damp patch, a weeping joint or a slow drip under a sink
- Your stopcock is seized and you couldn't shut the water off in an emergency
- A basin, bath or shower drains slowly or smells from the trap
- You need an outside tap fitted — or the old one split over winter
How it works
1. Describe the job on the phone
A photo helps — most small repairs can be quoted there and then, before we book anything.
2. Fixed quote before work starts
The price is agreed before a tool comes out. Extra jobs found on the day are quoted as additions — never silently rolled into the bill.
3. One visit, well-stocked van
Washers, cartridges, fill and flush valves, traps, stopcocks, isolation valves and pipe fittings on board — most repairs finish in a single visit.
4. Fix the cause, not the symptom
Seats reseated, scale addressed, isolation valves added where missing — so the repair lasts and the next fault is a two-minute job.
5. Test, tidy, stand behind it
Everything tested under working pressure, the area left clean, the work guaranteed. If a repair we made fails, we come back and make it right.

Local picture
Hard water is the thread through almost every repair we do around Molesey, Esher and Walton — at over 300 ppm, Surrey scale wrecks washers, cartridges and fill valves years ahead of schedule. The housing stock adds its own patterns: Victorian and Edwardian homes in Surbiton, Kingston and Thames Ditton still run original stopcocks that seize solid and imperial pipework that modern fittings won't touch without the right adaptors, while the 1930s semis across Molesey and Walton hide ageing gate valves and header-tank ball valves in the loft. We carry parts for both eras as standard, because around here both eras are a Tuesday.
