What to do right now

1. If water is coming through a ceiling, turn the water off at the stopcock and open cold taps to drain the system down.
2. A bulging ceiling is holding water — put a bucket underneath and pierce it with a screwdriver to let it drain in a controlled way rather than collapse.
3. Switch off electrics to any affected rooms at the consumer unit.
4. Note when you first saw the damp and what was running at the time (shower, washing machine, heating) — it shortens the tracing job considerably.

What we do when we arrive

• Make it safe: isolate the water, gas or circuit involved so the damage stops getting worse.
• Find the cause: trace the fault properly — not just the symptom that’s showing.
• Fix or quote: repair on the spot where parts allow; anything bigger gets a fixed written quote before we continue.
• Leave you covered: photos and notes for your insurer, and the system left safe even if a part is on order.

• Location: your postcode and anything useful about access or parking.
• The problem: what you can see and hear — where the water is coming from, any boiler fault code.
• What you’ve done: stopcock off? Heating off? Electrics isolated? It changes what we load.
• Phone signal: are you reachable? We’ll confirm an ETA by text en route.
